In our forty-plus years of practice, we have developed close relationships with professional breeders locally and throughout the tri-state area. Breeders come to us because we are there for every step of the process.
First, we draw a blood sample from the female and send it to our reliable outside laboratory to test her level of progesterone. This hormone is critical for conception and maintenance of pregnancy.
Once we are confident the number is right, it is time for insemination, and we offer breeders two methods to choose from. A small vaginal pipette can be painlessly inserted while the female is awake, in a process that only takes a few minutes. Our doctors are also highly experienced in surgical insemination, a safe and efficient procedure that has the female home on the same day. We recommend this method for brachycephalic dogs, since they have a harder time reproducing on their own, but it can be used on any breed.
Throughout the pregnancy, we are here for routine ultrasounds and x-rays, and we are always available in case there are questions or concerns.
Once the time comes for the puppies to be born, it’s all hands on deck. We are highly experienced with cesarean sections, and our experienced staff will be on hand to make sure mama and her babies are safe and healthy. We absolutely love bringing puppies into the world and watching them grow up as Richmond Valley patients.
